AUTOMATIC CHRONO SYSTEM AND VIDEO TRACKING IN PARC OLIMPIC DEL SEGRE (LA SEU D’URGELL)

The Automatic Chrono System and Video Tracking’s objective is to provide split times and video of each boat for coaches in order that this information may be used for technical analysis.

9 antennas are fitted along the length of the canal: one on the start line, 7 intermediate and one on the finish line. Additionally 9 video cameras, with zoom and remote control, are set up along the course. Each video camera’s field of view can be adjusted by a controller according to the training/competition course design and the paddle movement.

The paddler has an electronic chip in the bib. When the paddler with his / her chip approaches the antenna (start, intermediate, finish), he/she is identified and activates:
a) Timing control
b) Video camera

This procedure repeats itself at each of the antennas.

There is a file of intermediate (split) timing and total timing of each boat’s run.

When the last antenna is crossed all the timing detail and the full video film is automatically available. The video tracking is edited when the finish line is crossed or within 2 minutes of passing the last antenna.

The video file and time information will be Wi-Fi available (through a password provided by Parc del Segre to each team) in the course area. Coaches can watch the information and record it for further inspection.

The system will be used as ICF video feed in the 2009 Canoe Slalom World Championships.
